History of SATRO

The history of our company started before the change of Slovakia’s  political system  back in 1988 when an expert group was appointed beside the Administration of radiocommunications of Slovakia. It‘s task was to choose the most suitable system of cable television for the conditions of Czechoslovakia. The choice fell on a system of cable television network with wave length up to 860 MHz and backward channel in range 5 – 40 MHz, the producer of this system was Philips, a company well known in the world of cable television.
When the Radiocommunications decided to give up on the project of building a cable television network, a small group of experts has formed and split away from this institution and in the year 1992 our company Satro ltd. was founded and continued building up the network. In the chaos after the revolution only a few people have noticed our existence until 1993 when our visions have finally  become true. Our company got a license for providing cable television services. We started building up a cable television network and the public slowly became informed about our services.

The first project in 1993 was a turn-key cable television network in Bratislava‘s town part Devínska Nová Ves. This project, based upon the technology of company Radio Public - Philips has opened our way towards strong commercial partnerships and other projects of our own networks. In the same year we have started building our own HFC network in Topolčany and in Myjava in the year 1997. The construction of the first HFC networks with bandwidth up to 862 MHz  in those years was something extraordinary, because all of the Slovak and most of European HFC networks were constructed with bandwidth only up to 450 MHz. We have finally shown, that we are a step ahead of our international competitors. A year later, in 1998, we have once again come up with something original. We have started building our first MMDS network in Nitra. We have continued in the year 2001 in Považská Bystrica. It was this ambitious project of building an MMDS system with a transmitter located on the hill Javorina, that enabled us to cover a large area of the Western Slovakia. The MMDS project was attractive by its high potential of building a HFC network (the HFC network in Nitra was constructed this way). It has also fulfilled our expectations by its high picture quality and safety of content. This has created a potential for providing data services.
The latest of realized MMDS projects was in Bratislava, where we want to become the alternative operator.

In the year 2004 we have started with innovation of our technology and we have been the first Slovak company to start transmitting digitally. The service is called SATROdigital. In the same year we have developed another type of services. We have finished the test runs of the equipment necessary for providing data services. In Nitra we have started with commercial operation of our own network, SATROnet.

When we take a look on how we have been forming, we see a lot of progress and we consider ourselves as a company  still in the process of development and of realization of new ideas. Actually we own and operate broadband optico-coaxial and MMDS networks covering most of the Western Slovakia and we realize that we have overrun our visions and dreams from ten years ago.
